NUCLEAR STRESS TEST

INTRODUCTION

A Nuclear Stress Test combines imaging technology, small amounts of radioactive material, and an exercise stress test to diagnose and monitor heart problems.

Your doctor may use a nuclear stress test to diagnose coronary artery disease and assess damage from a heart attack or other heart problems. A nuclear stress test can also show how well your heart pumps blood.

PREPARATION

You should not consume alcohol, caffeine or tobacco (or other source of nicotine) for 24 hours before the test.

Do not eat anything for at least 6 hours before the test.

You may stop certain medications as BETA-Blockers for 24 hours, no long acting nitrates for 4 hours, no Nitroglycerin for at least 1 hour and no calcium channel blockers for 24 hours.

Wear comfortable clothing and shoes that are suitable for exercise.
