Digital Full Field Mammography comes to HMI
Houston Medical Imaging announces the acquisition, installation and ACR accreditation of the Siemens Novation full field digital mammography unit. The roll-out coincides with recently released clinical data that reveals digital mammography is more accurate than film screen mammography among women under the age of 50 years, women with heterogeneously dense or extremely dense breasts, and premenopausal or perimenopausal women.
Digital mammography offers other advantages over film mammography, including easier access to images; improved means of transmission, retrieval, and storage of images; and a lower average radiation dose without a compromise in diagnostic accuracy.
Additionally, all images are automatically analyzed with the R2® checker, a computer-aided detection program that points out suspicious areas to the interpreting physician.
All digital mammograms are performed at the Audley site, with x-ray and ultrasound capabilities similarly available. Exams are performed between the hours of 8:00 and 6:00, with Saturday scheduling to begin September 2006.
