HMI Performs 1st Mammotome Biopsy

Houston Medical Imaging has purchased the Mammotome Breast Biopsy System. This is a minimally invasive device that assists doctors to accurately diagnose cancer in its earliest stages. This procedure is used in conjunction with ultrasound, mammography (stereotactic breast biopsy) or MRI (pending installation of the Siemens 3T Treo with TIMM MR system in the 1st quarter of 2007).

The use of a vacuum-assisted core needle device has been shown to increase the sensitivity and specificity of minimally invasive breast biopsy procedures, and has been shown to be superior to both fine needle and core needle biopsies.

The Mammotome device, in conjunction with Full Field Digital Mammography and the Dynacad® quantitative MR system are powerful tools used in the Womens’ Imaging Center at Houston Medical Imaging.
